On September 22, 2018 three students from Conley’s Keichu-Do Academy attended the 28th Annual Southern Open National Martial Arts Championship in Columbus Georgia. They did a great job keeping their reputation by winning 1st place in their perspective divisions. The winning started with junior black belt Cotton Sherrer winning 1st place in both forms and fighting, and Jace Himes winning 1st in forms, weapons and 2nd in fighting. Both competed for the Grand Championship, and the outcome was Cotton Sherrer winning the overall Grand Championship for the junior black belt ages 17 and under. Both Cotton and Jace had a great day as usual. Also, in the 12 & 13 year old intermediated division (orange, green and purple belts), Lila Haddix place 1st in forms and 2nd in fighting.

On September 8, in Panama City, FL., The World Yshukai organization hosted the 31st annual Sunshine Classic Open Karate Tournament. Again, Conley’s Keichu-Do Academy Warriors performance was outstanding. The winnings started off in the adult black belt division with newly promoted black belt from Conley’s Academy, Kevin Marlatt placing 1st in forms, 2nd in both weapons and fighting. In the youth black belt division age 11 & 12 year old, Jace Himes placed 1st in forms, weapons and fighting. He also won the overall Grand Championship for the 17 and under black belt division. Cotton Sherrer placed 1st in forms, weapons and 2 in fighting in the 15 – 17 yr old black belt division. Jace and Cotton have been with Grandmaster Conley for 8 yrs and are top notch students. For the past two years one or both have been successful in being selected as the Grand Champion winner. Cotton with 7 Grand Championship wins and Jace with 5. In the 13 & 14 year old brown belt division Justin JT Marlatt won 1st in forms and weapons and 3rd in fighting. In the 12 & 13 orange through brown belt division, Benjamin Recznik won 2nd in forms, while Layton Smith won 1st in forms, weapons and 2nd in fighting. In the 12 & 13 year old white & yellow belt girls division Lila Haddix won 1st in forms and 3rd in fighting. The next tournaments on our list before we close out 2018 is the IKC Challenge in Columbus GA on 29 September and the 39th annual Southern Region Open sponsored by the World Yoshukai Organization at the Dothan Civic center on October 27th. Grandmaster Conley strives for perfection and the winnings are testimony of that.

In the adult under belt division, Justin Jones won the overall Grand Championship and his award is on the floor in front. In the youth junior black division Cotton Sherrer won the overall Grand Championship and his trophy is the large one on the right. Students from Conley’s Keichu-Do Academy of Martial Arts started off the 2018 karate tournament season excellent by representing Enterprise at the IKC Challenge in Columbus, Ga on 17 February 2018. Conley’s Academy has been participating in this tournament for 5 yrs and has always been impressive. The winnings started in the Jr black belt division age 15 & 16 yr old where Tyler “Cotton” Sherrer placed 1st in weapons, 1st in forms and 3rd in fighting which enabled him to compete for the Grand Championship for all youth black belts. Tyler “Cotton” Sherrer performed flawlessly winning the youth Grand Championship in weapons. Also in the 12 & 13 yr old black belt division was Jace Himes winning 1st in weapons, 1st in forms and 2nd in fighting which made Jace eligible to also compete for Grand Champion. Jace was also victorious winning Grand Champion in the forms division. This gave Conley’s keichu-Do Academy two Grand Champion wins at one tournament for 2018. In the adult women black belt division ages 18-29 for the first time as an adult black belt, Danai Elise Coleman won 2nd in both forms and weapons. In the brown belt division ages 15-17 Justin Jones won 1st in all three of his events, weapons, forms and fighting. In the youth boys intermediate division ages 12 & 13 yr old (orange, green and blue belts) Layton Smith won 1st in forms and 2nd in fighting. In the intermediate division ages 10 & 11 Yr old boys Chandler Strong won 2nd in forms. In the 9 & 10 yr old white and yellow belt division: Ethan Maquet placed 1st in forms and 3rd in fighting. His brother Evan placed 1st in forms and 2nd in fighting in the 6 & 7 yr old division. Also in the 6 & 7 yr old division, white and yellow belts was Braeden Brye placing 3rd in forms. At the IKC Challenge tournament they also presented a most supporting school award. For the second time in five yrs Conley’s Keichu-Do Academy received this award. The award was presented to Grand Master Eldrige Conley by Amy Latta-Won the tournament director. The next competition will be the 2018 South Alabama Open on 9 June in Andalusia, Al followed by The Battle of Atlanta in Atlanta, Ga on June 15-16.
